Swimming

The goal of the Bluefish swim team is to introduce new swimmers to the joy of swimming and competing. For veteran swimmers we constantly work on stroke refinement, speed and agility. Each swimmer will practice all four stokes: Fly, Back, Breast and Freestyle. We work on proper technique, racing starts, flip turns, along with strength and conditioning. Being that we are a recreation summer swim team, we focus on time improvement and fun rather than on the race outcome. We want kids to learn the fundamentals of swimming while having fun competing against local swim teams. Every Friday is a FUN Friday at Bluefish practice!

Our team is part of the Princeton Area Swimming and Diving Association (PASDA). This is a league designed for local summer teams to compete. Since our team is one of the largest in PASDA, we are in Division I. We generally have five dual meets (some home, some away) and then we finish the season with a PASDA Championship. All kids are strongly encouraged to participate in all dual meets and the championship.

I am proud to introduce myself as the head coach of YOUR Community Park Bluefish! Prior to arriving at Community Park, my passion for swimming goes back many years to training at a local YMCA. Like many of our swimmers, the sport turned into a life-long dedication which took me on a path to aquatics leadership and coaching. I joined the Princeton Recreation Department team in 2011 as a pool manager and assistant swim coach for the 13 and 14 age group. In 2013, I moved up to coach the 15 & over age group and became the Aquatics Director for Community Park Pool. In the months that I am not at Community Park I am a teacher at Hamilton Township Public Schools, and I coach for the NJ Stingrays USA Swimming team out of the Lawrenceville School.

I have been coaching Bluefish since 2012 and I can’t wait to get started this summer! I started swimming when I was 11, and then swam competitively for Princeton High School. I graduated from Denison University in 2018, went on to get a masters degree in elementary education from the University of Pennsylvania, and am now a kindergarten teacher in Dunellen, NJ. Coaching Bluefish has been the highlight of my summers, and I love watching the progression of swimmers as they grow more confident in their abilities and love to swim. I’m looking forward to seeing many familiar faces and meeting new ones, and having a fun filled season!
